Inter-School Olympics 2012

The idea behind the inter-School Olympics (iSO) event is to identify, nurture and encourage Leadership/ Teamwork qualities and Presentation Skills among children of all age groups. This is obviously not a substitute for what happens in schools but complements it by giving children an opportunity to look beyond the comfort of their classroom, to work together with peers from different schools, cities and countries. The competition offers the biggest prizes in its category and this year the first prize is a trip to Disneyland for 10 children. (Children do not win individually but in teams).

Competition Structure

The inter-School Olympics structure is as follows:

·     It is a mix of academics and activities: The school level of the competition is an MCQ test in 6 subjects where the average of Best 3 subjects for each child is considered for qualification to the next levels. The City and National Levels are completely activity based and include activities like Extempore, Debate, Group discussions, Problem solving, Science projects etc. This makes the competition much more holistic than others, while retaining the academic focus. We will also later develop a similar inter-school competition for various sporting disciplines but that is for next year.

·      It offers the biggest prizes in its category: The awards for inter-School Olympics include a trip to Disneyland for top 10 children as well as Laptops, Tablets and MP3 players at a City Level and scholarships + medals and trophies at a School Level. The idea is to provide a strong motivator for children to try their best and encourage strong competition.
